MEDICAL FACILITY OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Thanks to the wonderful man we met on a road show in Phoenix, Arizona, our brand new Medical Facility is almost complete!

The John and Carol Kusmit Medical Research Center, located in the back area of the Park, is state-of-the-art and ready for its grand opening. “We have always dreamed of having a building set aside for the animals who need constant attention, and our dreams have come true,” explains Joe Schreibvogel, Park Director. The facility is 900 square feet, cost about $6,000 to build, and it is fully equipped with stainless steel sinks and tables. There are cages to house up to 22 animals at a time inside. “We are very grateful to Mr. Kusmit for his generosity,” said Schreibvogel.

KROGER'S SHARE PROGRAM

Kroger has come aboard as Park sponsor, with their Share program. If you live in Texas or Louisiana, and you currently shop at Kroger, please present our “Share” card to the cashier when you check out. One percent of your purchase will be donated to the G.W. Exotic Animal Park by the store, and you will help to feed and house the animals in our care. If you don’t currently shop at Kroger, this is a great reason to switch!

To obtain your G.W. Exotic Animal Park “share” card, please send us a note, call us at 405-665-5197, or email us  giving us your full name and address, and we will get one right out to you!

SPECIAL THANKS

In addition to Mr. Kusmit, we would like to extend our thanks to Big Bob’s Fence Company in Blanchard, Oklahoma, for building our new deer pasture. Now the deer have four full acres in which to frolic and play!

IN MEMORY OF RICK MANION

We would like to thank everyone who attended the Memorial Ride for Rick Manion, the State Trooper who was killed while riding his bike. The Mayor of Wynnewood, John Warren, declared April 12th Rick Manion Day, and there will be a memorial ride here at the Park each year to help raise funds for the animals and the March of Dimes. This new addition is the 44th memorial the Park now represents.

A NOTE FROM OUR PARK DIRECTOR

Once again, I would like to thank you all for being so loyal to our cause. Without your support, we would not exist for the animals, and many would have no place to go for sanctuary. The Park continues to grow in leaps and bounds, and yet the phone keeps ringing with pleas for help in rescuing misplaced animals. It is up to us to pick up the slack when folks don’t think through what they are doing when they buy a tiger as a pet, or try to hand raise a bobcat or servil.

Left, Joe Schreibvogel introduces Earl, a 17 foot Burmese python, to youngsters at Crossroads Mall in Oklahoma City.

The road crew will be traveling to Mississippi, Houston and Florida this summer on a month long campaign to help raise awareness and gather donations for the park. We need to fill those freezers and build more compounds for the animals in holding, and make room for the others still on our waiting list. Don’t forget to stop in when you are passing through Oklahoma this summer. Our doors are always open for visitors. We have a picnic area for your family, so come on down! On behalf of the staff and the residents, we thank you for your support.

Keep spreading the word and God bless!

God Bless,

WELCOME!

We are thankful that we had no goodbyes to say since our last newsletter. Everyone seems happy and healthy. Please join us in welcoming our spring newborns to the park!

Right, meet Savannah Jessica, a newborn Hamadryas baboon. She was born on April 24th to Babygirl and Peanut. Savannah goes home every night with our Park Curator, Jasen, until she is old enough to sleep on her own.

This is one of four precious African lion cubs born to Sully and Leah on May 1st. All of these youngsters need sponsors and names. Let us know if you would like to “adopt” a lion cub.
This is 17 week old Zoom Zoom, a North American black bear, with Staff Volunteer Gayla Howe. “He is a handful,” she said. Angel, our three-legged bear who recently had dental surgery, is his proud mom.

ANIMALS IN NEED OF SPONSORS

We still have a number of animals in holding who are quickly outgrowing what was meant to be their temporary homes. If you could find it in your heart to adopt/sponsor any of these animals, please let us know.

Tigers still in small cages are Goliath, Cheyenne and Dylan, Sweetpea, and Princess Carmen. Actually, Dylan is an African lion, but he likes to hang with Cheyenne, so we would like to keep them together.

We also have three mountain lions and two wolves in holding who need to be moved out to make room for three bears in Texas waiting for rescue, and four wolves in Broken Arrow who are waiting for a new home.

If you would like to sponsor any of these animals, please see our current needs insert section.  Prices just increased on building compounds for the animals.

Left, Goliath, is our largest Bengal tiger, and he needs more room to move around than his small cage allows.

WISH LIST

In addition to the items listed on our usual wish list for the animals, there are a few things we desperately need. If you have any of these laying around the house that you could donate to the park, please contact us asap at 405-665-5197.

- Bath towels for the babies - Baby bottles
- Stock tanks/Horse tanks for the bears - Garden hoses
- Metal lockers for food storage - Straw and hay

SPECIAL THANK YOUS

We at the G.W. Exotic Animal Memorial Park would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the follow folks who so loyally support us!

Alan & Barbara McIlvain, Harold Cunningham, Phyllis Eary, Robert & Mary Willis, Kelly and Rhonda Manek, Ralph F. Kampschmidt, Christa Linihan, Barbara and Charles Fennell, Pati Winn, Pat Lester, Shirley Hatfield, Dr. Kim Winton, Ken and Martha Baker, Heather Gauthier, Dr. Dana Martin, Robert and Janice Lawton, Kevin Gill, and John Kusmit.

Remember Lacara? The black leopard rescued from Texas (upper left), who suffered multiple fractures because of poor nutrition? We are happy to report that she is doing very well! Although she is somewhat fragile and very small for her age, Lacara is feisty and downright willful at times. Heartfelt thanks to all who helped with her vet bills.

On the other hand, Ginger, left, is as sweet as can be! Ginger is an African lioness, and she suffers from epilepsy. She is shown here recovering from a seizure, in the arms of Staff member Jamie Taylor. Both Lacara and Ginger need cage sponsors.

The red-tailed boa above posed nicely for this photo. You can visit with him in the reptile house at the park at exit 64, off I-35 in Wynnewood.
