PETA: People Enabling Terrorist Atrocities

To hear the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals tell it, they're just animal lovers. They usually claim they simply want to ensure our furry and feathered friends aren't abused. In reality, they call humans "a cancer" and insist we all become become vegetarians. They also say that all animal testing, necessary for testing new drugs, be eliminated. "Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we'd be against it," says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk.

Indeed, PETA's latest target is the world's largest medical experiment contracting lab, Covance of Vienna, Virginia. They've accused the company of committing horrors with laboratory monkeys, claiming they have video footage to back it up. Yet bizarrely the part they've released shows no such thing – making a monkey out of PETA.

A PETA infiltrator made secret tapes of monkeys and their handling over an 11-month period, then the group chopped it down to a select 28 minutes, then cut down to just a few minutes which it displays on its website – presumably "the worst of the worst." Yet other than a slight slap, we see nothing direr than workers THREATENING a few unruly animals whereupon the threats are clearly not carried out. Some images are as innocuous as a monkey pacing in its cage.

"If that's the worst they've been able to find after almost a year, I'd have to guess Covance has a first class facility," says Foundation for Biomedical Research President Franki Trull. Certainly nobody has a greater interest in protecting those animals than Covance. Real abuse would also violate the Animal Welfare Act, USDA Animal Welfare Regulations and Standards and send drug companies to labs that take better care of their animals.

Despite this backfiring publicity stunt, however, PETA remains both a savvy and dangerous organization. Fortunately, lawmakers and PETA targets - including Covance – seem to be finally realizing how serious the PETA and animal rights problem is.

"Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we'd be against it," says PETA.

Last month the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told a Senate panel that animal rights extremists, along with eco-terrorists, pose one of the most serious national terrorist threats – one growing by leaps and bounds. Unlike such groups as the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), PETA takes no credit for such actions as torching laboratories. But it does support these groups both vocally and financially.

"I find it small wonder that the laboratories aren't all burning to the ground. If I had more guts, I'd light a match," Newkirk has said. Other gems: "I wish we would all get up and go into the labs and take the animals out or burn them down," and "Would I rather the research lab that tests animals is reduced to a bunch of cinders? Yes." She also insisted, "I will be the last person to condemn ALF."

PETA vegetarian campaign coordinator Bruce Friedrich has declared that "blowing stuff up and smashing windows" is something PETA doesn't do "but I do advocate it."

PETA has donated to the Earth Liberation Front, a certified terrorist group that, according to the FBI, along with the ALF has committed more than 600 criminal acts causing more than $43 million in damages. During the 1990s, PETA paid $70,200 to an ALF activist convicted of burning down a Michigan State University research laboratory. During sentencing, the federal judge implicated Newkirk in the crime.

PETA compares broiler chickens to holocaust victims.

Individual victims of PETA campaigns have usually been afraid to fight back, lest they draw more attention to the charges against them. But as with law enforcement agencies, companies are realizing just how serious the threat has become.

Covance's initial reaction to PETA's allegation was anything but instant denial. Rather, "If and when we receive these materials, we will immediately review the allegations," it stated. "We will thoroughly examine the complaint to determine if there are any credible issues we need to address" and if "if there are legitimate problems, we will act accordingly to resolve them." It also sent copies of the half-hour tape to primate experts for review.

Only then did the company throw a monkey wrench at PETA, suing the group and its filmer for fraud and for conspiring to harm its business.

"This type of malicious activity by PETA, in which it conspires with individuals to lie about their intentions, to videotape and potentially disrupt medical research, and then to launch vile disinformation campaigns against pharmaceutical research companies, has got to stop," said Covance lawyer James Lovett.

The suit also demands that PETA and its infiltrator hand over the full set of tapes, so we can see what PETA left on the cutting room floor.

It's about time that somebody hit back at these fanatics who compare the deaths of broiler chickens to the Holocaust. "I'm getting a sense that institutions that chose not to sue in the past because didn't want to draw attention to themselves are really saying now, 'Enough already!'" Trull told me. "That's encouraging because bullies only pick on you if they think you won't fight back."

PETA's Ingrid Newkirk
A month after asking Timothy McVeigh to die a vegan, the president and co-founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals dares you to say she cares more about animals than people.

By Peter Brandt

April 30, 2001 | At first glance, urging the murderer of 168 innocent people to give up meat, eggs and dairy out of consideration for animals seems either insanely optimistic or crassly exploitative just so PeTA could have another spokesman. For Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder and president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, her group's letter to Timothy McVeigh made perfect sense. In a nation that matter-of-factly slaughters 9 billion animals a year, Newkirk and her colleagues must maintain an incredible amount of hope.

The letter to McVeigh, penned by PeTA staffer Bruce Friedrich, reads as a sincere expression of concern not just for animals but for McVeigh's own spiritual well-being. Friedrich writes:

"I do Believe that arson, bombing and Property destruction is acceptable crimes to raise awareness for animals" says Ingrid Newkirk.

"I believe that your decision to go vegan would help the movement for compassion toward animals, and I am certain that if you made the choice prayerfully, it would profit your soul. As a Christian, I believe in acts of repentance, and it seems to me that you might benefit very much from such an act."

If it sounds like PETA's getting more ambitious, it is. In order to better pursue multinational juggernauts, PETA has opened offices in Britain, Germany, Italy and India in recent years. Fast-food chains, clothing designers and even U.S. presidential candidates know the bitterness of the long, hard P.R. winter that is a Newkirk-directed campaign. Tofu cream pies are thrown at CEOs, gruesome billboards go up near corporate headquarters and throngs of vocal protesters dog profit margins at the wave of Newkirk's hand. McDonald's, General Motors, Calvin Klein and, most recently, Burger King have all buckled under the strain in one way or another.

Newkirk, who served 25 years as a Maryland state law enforcement officer in addition to co-founding PETA in 1980 with Alex Pacheco, hopes the public will see past the organization's sensational tactics. It's the substance of the mission that still drives her after two decades: endeavoring to end what she perceives as humanity's moral divorce from much of the animal kingdom.

Bruce [Friedrich] was quoted in an Associated Press story as saying, "I don't know what it means for the vegan movement if Timothy McVeigh in his final days adopts a vegan diet." Judging from the media coverage, it seems like a vegan McVeigh could go a long way toward permanently relegating vegans to the wacko column in many minds.

I'm never afraid of that. I can't imagine why anyone would wish or hope that McVeigh continues to be violent until the very last minute. That's mean and rotten at the core because it means people don't really want him to change. If there's anyone you would want to change, it would surely be someone who has demonstrated the active capacity to hurt and to kill.

I can't imagine why anyone would root for him to have a steak -- that would make him the poster boy of the hunting and fishing community. He's very proud to say he does hunt, which puts him in the same league as all the school shooters, almost without exception. They either hunted themselves, or used their parents' hunting guns, or were familiar with hunting. So he couldn't be the poster boy for veganism when he's lived his entire life being a hunter, and a meat-and-potatoes man, but it would show that there's hope for absolutely anyone.

It also draws attention to the fact that even in the federal prison system, you can now get vegetarian meals. It will be food for thought and debate for several years to come if he does this. The federal prisoner who was executed before him took as his last meal an olive with the pit so that an olive tree, a symbol of peace, could grow out of him when he was buried. I think he was sending a message that nobody is irredeemable in a Christian context. Maybe this is the first time Timothy McVeigh has had his violence questioned in a context where he can actually start exploring what he does.

Do you love animals?

Do you own a pet?

PETA: Lies, Abuse, and Death
by Dave Gibson, Columnist

TAP EXCLUSIVE!!

First of Three Parts

Part I: PETA's Horrible Secret

                                                                                                  Mr, Gibson

We all know that PETA is quite possibly the most annoying and certainly the most arrogant of all the leftist groups currently attempting to alter our way of life. However, I doubt that outside of a few nosy people and former PETA employees anyone knows how they care for homeless pets in Hampton Roads, Virginia (their headquarters, right)...They kill them!

That's right, this warm fuzzy bastion of animal rights kills every once beloved family pet who has the misfortune of being carried through PETA's doors. People take animals to PETA instead of local shelters because they believe that they will be placed into a home and will not be put down. Unlike local animal shelters, PETA doesn't even bother trying to find homes for these pets. All of them are killed within a few hours. In fact, PETA has gone through several area vets, and they refused to euthanize healthy animals. Finally PETA constructed their own facilities for this practice.

A former PETA employee spoke of one particular incident that burned into her mind forever: A teary-eyed man showed up at PETA headquarters one day with his beloved pet rabbit. The man had grown old and sick and was no longer able to care properly for his friend. He supplied a cage, bed, toys, and even vet records for this pet. He was assured by PETA workers that they would take "good care" of his rabbit and find him a home. The man left distraught but no doubt believing that his friend would be able to live out the rest of his life in a loving, compassionate home...PETA workers carried him to the 'death house' immediately and ended his life!

PETA doesn't stop with animals who are dropped off at their facility. No, they actively seek out animals throughout the community to kill. PETA sets traps to catch roaming animals all over Hampton Roads. These traps are designed to catch cats, many of these are not just strays but people's pets. They have even ventured onto a local federal installation, where they captured dozens of cats and immediately killed them. The cats at this particular facility were living in a 'feral cat colony'. They were well fed, spayed and neutered, and received regular veterinary care at the expense of the government workers. PETA in their renowned arrogance decided that they knew better and illegally entered the installation several times, stole these people's cats and ended their lives.

PETA employees and volunteers regularly enter private property to capture animals, which according to former PETA employees are often times people's pets - someone's cat out for a midnight stroll or even just sitting in their owner's yard! Car loads of cats are regularly brought to PETA headquarters by employees and volunteers whose job it is to 'round them up'. One such volunteer has brought in hundreds of cats, many wearing tags bearing the name and address of their owner. The animals are loaded into a small storage shed, where they sometimes sit for several hours in the heat and cold...awaiting their date with the executioner.

We have all seen the outrageous costumes worn by PETA wackos. As an example of just how callous and truly bizarre these people truly are, two of the employees who perform the euthanizations came to a PETA function dressed as syringes! PETA's co-founder (Alex Pacheco) left the group over its absurd policy of feline genocide. PETA's mission statement, written by that group's leader Ingrid Newkirk states "We believe that animals have an intrinsic worth of their own". So Ms. Newkirk...Did you forget your mission?

In researching this article, I spoke to former PETA employees as well as people whose pets have been stolen by PETA (which were undoubtedly killed). Everyone of these people were willing to talk to me but insisted I not divulge their names or even the cities in which they now reside! When I asked one of these people why she was so afraid of retribution from PETA, I was told..."They will take it out on my animals".

Ingrid Newkirk is not only hypocritical but incredibly cruel. Euthanasia is something which is at times necessary, I know this all too well as I have had to make this heart-breaking decision. It is something that is done as a last resort, not a first response. It is a decision which must be made out of love and compassion, with a great deal of soul-searching. It is not something to be committed out of haste and blind loyalty to some feminazi. It is done to end suffering or when all efforts to find one a home has failed. It must never be done to animals that don't belong to you! ***
