Wynnewood OK. - Time and time again the G.W. Exotic Animal Park is under fire of rumors, lies, and out right attacks. The latest attack was stirred up with PeTA's propaganda from years past with the hopes to discredit the G.W. Park and a anti drug and alcohol show put on by "Joe Exotic aka Schreibvogel" to gain recognition for their own cause. "Living off of things that are over 4 and 5 years old is all they have to use." said Joe Schreibvogel, Director of the G.W. Park. "They keep making money off of old news, telling lies and half truths in hopes that people will believe their lies and misinformed information" he added. "They have accused us of plucking feathers off of the neck of a turken when a turken does not grow feathers on his neck, calling a lion a dog in a kennel, and not knowing the difference between a young lion vs. a young tiger in a photo, and claiming interaction with humans is cruel and dangerous, but most of the people who see PeTA's stuff on the internet don't know any better so they think they have found a real animal abuser and send PeTA money" said Joe. Reports show from a consumer freedom article found at www.petakillsanimals.com that in 2008 PeTA raised a sum of approximately 32 million dollars, received 2,216 animals and killed 2,124 of them, adopting out only 7 and transferring 34. Over 95 percent of the animals PeTA was called to help died at the hands of a lethal injection. According to tax returns in January of 1997, PeTA gave Rodney Coronado a $45,200.00 marked "donation to support committee work". Rodney Coronado was charged with an arson attack on the research facility of the Michigan State University causing $125,000.00 in damages and was sentenced to 57 months in prison.

"I shouldn't have to stoop to the level of these people to explain anything I do. I just let people pet animals, I don't go around killing animals, burning places down and getting complaints about domestic abuse on me or have missing people in my care. I just take care of animals the only way I know how without hurting anyone or anything ", Schreibvogel stated.

Among the slander and lies to gain more attention to their own pocket book, Carole Basking of Big Cat Rescue posted online that G.W. has 1570 animals crammed on 16 acres in a press release to the state of Wisconsin in June of this year. Joe said that unless she is counting all the hissing cockroaches, birds flying around the park and fish in the ponds he can't figure out where she came up with this kind of number. Baskin has accused Joe and the G.W. Park of being a poor facility because he allows public contact with young animals and is open to the public. Joe says he can't understand that because Big Cat Rescue's being open to the public, giving night tours, renting cottages, and giving private tours isn't any different from what he does. Schreibvogel, who operates one of the Nations largest facilities for exotic animals, says that people like PeTA and Big Cat Rescue of Tampa Florida just like keeping their name out there whether it is telling lies, starting rumors or down grading someone else and it is just a ploy to raise donations for their own pocket. "I try to mind my own business but every day I have to spend time defending myself against people like PeTA and Baskin, who kill animals and harass other people. It gets old and very discouraging", he stated.

Carole Baskin started her life's work as a breeder of exotics and selling and trading animals. In fact, Baskin was one of the biggest breeders and sellers of Exotic cats in the US. In 2007, Bay news 9 of Tampa broke a story with one of Big Cat Rescue's volunteers coming forward with paper work to prove things were not on the up and up. They showed that over 30 cats where born on Baskin's property and a serval were purchased for a thousand dollars. Carole admits in a 1998 People Magazine article that she went to Minnesota and bought over 50 bob cats taking them back to Florida, building 4 cabins that she rents out for $75.00 per night, and letting people play with their choice of tamed bobcats, cougars, or a serval. In the article Carol states "You'd pay that much at a Holiday Inn with no entertainment". Schreibvogel said, "Baskin sounds like a hypocrite to me, she's the pot calling the kettle black."

Domestic troubles started when Carole's first husband filed domestic charges on Carole in April of 1987 and again in 1990. But that was just the start; Public records show that her next husband filed the same type of domestic charges against her in June of 1997. Carole's second husband was Jack D Lewis, a self made millionaire, who came up missing after his domestic violence charges against Carole were filed. Jack D Lewis vanished without a trace. According to the article in People Magazine, Jack Lewis's grown children from a previous marriage and his long time secretary suspect Carole of foul play. Carole gained $152,000.00 from her husband's life insurance and estate after his disappearance and his body has never been found. But the drama behind Baskin did not stop there; Carole roped yet another boy friend into abuse, Jay C Baykal, who filed domestic charges twice in 2002 and once in 2003. "To this day Carole has an abusive attitude", said Joe. "She hates me and has never met me once in her life so I guess as the saying goes "If the shoe fits, wear it."

Schreibvogel went on to state "I don't have a clue what is wrong with the industry of helping animals; it seems to be a contest. Why, I don't know, and will never understand it. There are enough animals to rescue and help for everyone, but, some of these people make it a contest. Winning what? Money in their pocket I guess, but it is all work and no pay for me."
Schreibvogel, who is living in a 2 bedroom house with 7 people sleeping on couches and on floors and a huge blue tarp covering a leaky roof says "Anyone can come see what I live in vs. my animals I care for. Every dime goes into the care and well being of these animals and anyone is welcome to come take a first hand look at what we have done here for the good of the animals." Schreibvogel says, he would just like people to be careful about reading much on the internet, and go check things out for themselves before casting judgment on others. "Someday, maybe these people will get tired of the slander and get enough money in their pockets to just leave the ones who want to care for animals alone to do our jobs."
